Product Description

Safety Innovation for your Child. One of the most effective innovations in automotive safety is the crumple zone, the area of the vehicle that is designed to deform and crumple in a collision. The crumple zone absorbs energy in an impact, preventing it from being transmitted to the occupants. Much like the crumple zones that protect us in the cars we drive, the crumple zone system integrated into every Foonf child seat protects your child.

In a collision, the vehicle comes to an abrupt stop, but the child continues to move at the same speed. The less time that it takes for the child to come to a complete stop, the higher the forces exerted on the child. The REACT Safety System allows that sudden change in momentum to happen over a longer period of time through a series of controlled events. Foonf is designed to ride down the collision crumpling the aluminum honeycomb and absorbing energy from the collision resulting in less force transferred to the child.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.I bought the Foonf for my 2.5 year old. I was a little concerned because there were few reviews and people said it looked uncomfortable. We do a lot of long car trips so comfort is important. I received the Foonf and it does look uncomfortable because it has barely any cushion on the sitting part. Prior to the Foonf my son was mainly using a Combi Zeus 360 which is really cushy and which he never complained in. We also have a Britax Boulevard 70 which looks much more comfortable than the Foonf, but my son says the Foonf is more comfortable. I put the Britax in the car because we are about to go on a 3,000 mile road trip, so I wanted him to have maximum comfort and he cried and said he likes the Foonf better and wanted it back, so I switched them back and he is happy! I was a little worried about how long it would last since the top harness slot is only at 17" but I put my nephew who is built very similarly to my son (average height and skinny) in the seat and at almost 7 years old he barely fit, but did still fit. If I can keep my son in a 5 point harness in this seat until he is 7 years old I will be happy as a clam. After having this seat for about six months I am very impressed. It is really easy to install with latch or seatbelt (I have only used it forward facing) the lockoffs hold the seatbelt tighter for longer than any other seat I've used. The forward facing rigid latch is SO easy to use, it takes maybe two minutes to get a tight install, so although this seat is big and heavy to move, it is a super easy install. It is very sturdy. Some people complain about headslump in this seat, but I think it is a "minivan" seat -made to go on a seat that is more reclined. I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I have the Foonf installed at recline position 2, at position 1, the back of the seat was pretty much perpendicular to the ground, he seems comfortable with the slight recline and he doesn't have headslump (any more than in any other seat.) In fact the headwings do a very good job of supporting his head when he is asleep. I only have two complaints, the first one is the useless belt protectors. They are not long enough to provide protection from the belt rubbing the neck. You are totally not supposed to do this, but I put the belt protectors from the Britax on instead. The second complaint is that this seat doesn't come with a cupholder, for a $400+ seat that is ridiculous. I heard that Clek is supposedly developing one for purchase later this summer, but to have to pay extra after dropping this much money on a seat is kind of annoying. All in all I am very happy with this seat. My son rides in safety and comfort and he loves this seat too. I would definitely purchase this again. If I have another kid I would definitely buy another Foonf after they outgrow their infant seat.*EDIT*I tried putting this seat in my dad's 2010 Dodge Avenger forward facing using the rigid latch and after fighting with it for about five minutes gave up and installed it with a seatbelt instead. The problem was the seat angle, plus the position of the latch in the vehicle plus the rigid latch all came together badly. The seat is pretty angled and the latch in this vehicle is very high, about 2" higher than the seat, I probably could have installed the seat with the rigid latch eventually, but it was too hard to try to hold up this 30+ lb seat in such an awkward position. Due to all of this, the latch wouldn't slide the way it is supposed to. BUT it is such an easy install with the seatbelt that even if I couldn't use the rigid latch I think it is still a worthwhile buy.COMFORT UPDATE -we just did 1,500 miles in the car in two days driving across the country and the same coming back a week later and there were no complaints about comfort from my very picky, sensitive three-year-old, he loves this seat.
