The back is just fabric so the seat of the car is supporting her back. Makes it easy to bring with you when you travel, too! The bag it comes with is great and the seat folds into a square inside of it.We got it a few months before she turned three and I loved it so much I bought a second one a few months later to replace the Maxi Cosi convertible seat we had in our other car.So so good!
